James Gunn's Hilarious Take On Nicholas Hoult's Superman: Legacy Look
The official bald look of Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor is yet to be revealed, James Gunn amusingly addressed the curiosity surrounding Hoult's appearance.

The eagerly awaited Superman Legacy movie, featuring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, is steadily making progress under the guidance of James Gunn, CEO of DC Studios and the film’s director. Gunn is actively sharing intriguing details about the project on the Threads app. Despite maintaining secrecy around major plot points, Gunn engages with fans and answers some of their burning questions. Earlier, he had confirmed that Nicholas Hoult, known for his work in X-Men: First Class and Mad Max: Fury Road, will play the iconic bald villain, Lex Luthor. While the official bald look of Hoult is yet to be revealed, Gunn amusingly addressed the curiosity surrounding Hoult’s appearance, assuring fans that he has no plans to take on the role of a barber himself.

Since the official announcement of the movie, Gunn has been giving responses to the fans’ inquiries, discussing everything from the start of filming to costume details. The filmmaker is clever enough to not drop any major information from the upcoming film. Meanwhile, the role of Lex has been previously played by Jesse Eisenberg in DCEU’s Superman vs Batman: Dawn of Justice. Now, Hoult has the responsibility to bring a fresh take to the iconic villain and fans are curious about his bald look. A fan recently asked the filmmaker, “Are you going to shave Nicholas Hoult’s head personally?” Gunn humorously replied, “No because we don’t want him to be known as ‘the bloody-headed Lex’.”

Under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, DC Studios is undergoing a major transformation, as the two are revamping the DC Universe and introducing a fresh narrative for the Man of Steel in the upcoming Superman: Legacy. While promoting two movies, Sasquatch Sunset and A Real Pain, at the Sundance Film Festival, Jesse Eisenberg, who previously portrayed Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s DC film, shared his advice to Nicholas Hoult. The actor suggested that Hoult should carve out his own interpretation of Lex and not be influenced by his character.

In a conversation with Variety, Jesse said, “Whenever you play a role you feel connected to it. There’s no way around it. Any time you do anything, even if it’s a movie that’s a Hollywood kind of thing, you connect.”

Apart from David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult, Superman: Legacy will also feature María Gabriela, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan and Sara Sampaio. The movie is scheduled to release on July 11, 2025.
