Veteran director Yash Chopra is known for being one of the filmmakers with whom every actor dreamt of working. But, once Chopra, who created a massive stir at the box office with several of his films on screen, was refused by this actor.
Yash Chopra has been the man behind creating many remarkable and memorable movies such as Daag, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Ittefaq, Kaala Patthar, Lamhein, Trishul, Chandni, Darr, Chandni, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Veer Zara and Jab Tak Hai Jaan which are still remembered for their emotional plots and romantic songs. While most of the actors across the film industry wanted to work with him, Anil Kapoor once begged for a role but intentionally rejected it when he got the opportunity to star in Yash Chopra’s movie.
Many of us might not know that, in 1992, when filmmaker Yash Chopra was about to direct a movie along with the finalised star cast, he had to end up changing the same as Anil Kapoor refused the director before starting the shoot. Chopra scheduled the film Parampara to shoot in 1992 which was released in the year 1993, featuring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sunil Dutt and Raveena Tandon in lead roles.
In addition to these actors, Parampara also featured Vinod Khanna in a crucial role. Although the producer of Parampara wanted Anupam Kher to act in the role of Thakur Prithvi, Anupam Kher couldn’t feature as he was busy with Khel. Subsequently, Vinod Khanna bagged the role. Before the time of the shoot, when Chopra went on to Kher, he came to know that Kher was shooting for the film Khel in Kenya.
Following the discussion, Anupam Kher shared the conversation with Khel’s lead Anil Kapoor, which intrigued him to approach Yash Chopra for his upcoming project. Earlier, Anil Kapoor worked with Chopra in three of his famous films such as Mashal, Vijay and Lamhein.
Anil Kapoor rushed back to India from Kenya and reached out to Yash Chopra’s office. He told Chopra that he wanted to work in Parampara, to which Chopra mentioned that there was only one role left in the film that Anil Kapoor would not like to take. But, without listening to the character’s demand, Anil Kapoor requested and begged to be a part of the film.
Ultimately, Chopra considered the request and took Anil Kapoor. Later, when the entire team of the film went to Jaipur for the shoot, Anil Kapoor refused to act as the father of Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan.
On the sudden refusal, Chopra has to reach out to other actors such as Jackie Shroff and Vinod Khanna. While Jackie Shroff was busy shooting for some other project, Vinod Khanna took the role and reached Jaipur for the shoot.
