There was a time before marriage and divorce when Sophie Turner spoke highly about the importance of friendship in one’s life. The Game of Thrones star is currently manoeuvring her way through a rough patch between her highly publicized separation from her husband Joe Jonas and speculative narratives surrounding their split. The ex-couple has refrained from publicly disclosing the reason but confirmed parting ways was an amicable decision. It was in 2017 when Sophie Turner appeared on the August cover of Marie Claire, the time when she had just begun dating Joe Jonas. It was all love in paradise back then, when the Hollywood diva confessed to being utterly happy, adding Joe was a complete “romantic.”
Notably, it was also the phase when their fans rooted for the duo to be together and gave them the nickname “Jophie.” When asked about her feelings about the fan-coined term, Sophie jokingly said she prefers “Mophie” a combination of her name with GOT co-star Maisie Williams who played her on-screen sister Arya Stark in the renowned show. “What’s that thing they say? Relationships come and go, but friendship is always there,” she said.
The co-stars first met during their London auditions and after returning hoped for one another to get the part. The banter only deepened when they started filming together as two young girls on an otherwise adult set. Notably, the in-between of their friendship also entailed pushing suitable projects each other’s way. Sophie called their bond quite “rare” in an industry where friendships and interactions are marginalized on profits.
Almost two years after her interaction with the magazine, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas officially tied the knot in two wedding ceremonies. They went on to welcome two daughters, Willa, 3, and a one-year-old whose name hasn’t been disclosed yet. On September 5, 2023, Joe Jonas officially filed for divorce and the couple put out a joint statement on social media to confirm the update.
“After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” the two states.
Previously, photos and videos of Sophie Turner sharing a kiss with co-star Frank Dillane on the sets of Joan created quite a buzz on social media.
