Ban on International Flights Extended Till August 31; More Travel Bubbles To be Announced Soon
International flight operations will continue to take place under travel bubbles that India has established with the US, France, and Germany so far.

Aviation regulator DGCA on Friday said the suspension of scheduled international flights to and from the country has been extended till August 31. Earlier, overseas flights were suspended till July 31.

"The government has decided to extend the suspension on the scheduled international commercial passenger services to/ from India up to 2359 hours IST of 31st August," the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement. This restriction will not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the DGCA.int

"However, this restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA," the statement further read.

However, flight operations will continue to take place under travel bubbles that the Government has established with countries like US, Germany, and France with UK and Canada also likely to have these bubbles with India soon.

“To allow gradual movement of passenger traffic during the Covid-19 situation, ‘transport bubble’ agreements have been signed with USA, France, and Germany. Recently, ‘transport bubble’ agreement has also been signed with Kuwait to uplift stranded passenger both to/from India. More similar arrangements are likely to fructify and ease passenger movements from different countries," it added.

To recall, scheduled domestic flights were allowed to resume after a two-month halt on May 25 and so far the airlines are operating about 30% of the summer schedule. The Civil Aviation Ministry, however, has allowed the airlines to raise the capacity to 45% till November 24.
