The number of registrations for the Common Admission Test 2023 (CAT 2023) has increased by 30 per cent over the previous year. According to a report by the Times of India, nearly 3.3 lakh applicants seeking MBA admission at Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have enrolled for CAT 2023. In the year 2022, 2.55 lakh candidates registered for the CAT 2022 entrance exam, which was an increase of 11 per cent when compared to 2021 and over 6 per cent for category applicants.
Professor Sanjeet Singh of IIM-Lucknow was reported by the Times of India as saying, “Registrations this year are the highest in the history of CAT, ever since it was started in 1977. In fact, it never touched the 3-lakh mark before. In absolute numbers, an increase of 75,000 applications, year-on-year, is a record in itself.”
The CAT registration window for 2023 ended on September 21 at 11 AM and the CAT admit card will be made available for download on October 25 through the official website, iimcat.ac.in, for those who have registered for the test. The CAT exam will be held on November 26 in accordance with the schedule issued.
In the year 2022, 87 per cent of students took the CAT, with 35 per cent being female, 65 per cent male, and 4 applicants being transgender. Registrations increased last year despite a minor decline during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
Six IIMs—IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Rohtak, and IIM Shillong—will have 43 per cent women in the PGP class despite the fact that more male students registered.

The CAT 2023 admissions procedure will be divided into three parts. The Written Ability Test (WAT) is the first step, followed by the Group Discussion (GD), and the Personal Interview (PI). The written test will be broken up into three sections: Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning, and Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning. Each section of the test will comprise 40 minutes of questions, giving candidates 120 minutes to finish. Up until 2008, the CAT was administered using the traditional offline pen-and-paper test mode.
