Google Pixel 8 Pro Vs Pixel 7 Pro: Features, Specs And Price Compared
Now that the Google Pixel 8 Pro is official, let's check its new features, and compare to the previous-generation Pixel 7 Pro.

Google has wrapped up its Made by Google 2023 event, where it launched the new Pixel 8 series of smartphones and the new Pixel Watch 2. But the highlight of the event has to be the Pixel 8 Pro. Not only has Google followed a different strategy this time around by reserving exclusive features for the Pro models—just like some of its rivals—but it has also made sure to market those features (mostly the camera) heavily.

So, while not a lot has changed in terms of aesthetics compared to the Pixel 7 series, the Pixel 8 Pro promises a lot of changes under the hood compared to the Pixel 7 Pro. Here, let’s compare the specifications and features of the phone based on what Google has revealed so far.

Pixel 8 Pro vs Pixel 7 Pro: Specifications and Features

The major difference has to be the Tensor chipset used. In the Pixel 8 Pro, Google has gone with the Tensor G3—the third-generation Tensor chipset, while the Pixel 7 Pro has the Tensor G2. Google says this new processor supports more machine learning algorithms than before and is, of course, better at things like generative AI.

Both phones have a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, but this year, Google has introduced a new ‘Super Actua’ display with a peak brightness of 2400 NITS in the Pixel 8 Pro—making it brighter than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (1750 NITS) and the new iPhone 15 Pro (2000 NITS). The Pixel 7 Pro has a display with a peak brightness of 1500 NITS.

The RAM and storage options remain the same this year—with 12GB of RAM and storage up to 512GB.

Coming to the optics, the Pixel 8 Pro gets brand new sensors in the form of the new 48MP ultrawide, a new 5X 48MP telephoto, and the updated 50MP main camera. While the Pixel 7 Pro also has a triple-camera setup, it comes with a 12MP ultrawide, 48MP telephoto, and the 50MP main camera. And this year, the front 10.5MP camera of the Pixel 8 Pro gets autofocus.

Apart from hardware changes, the Pixel 8 Pro comes with a slew of software features that promise a better camera experience with features like NightSight in video, Audio MagicEraser, and the Magic Editor. The Pixel 7 Pro also has its share of AI magic, but it is limited to features like MagicEraser and Photo Unblur.

Pixel 8 Pro vs Pixel 7 Pro: Price

With Google’s new approach, the search giant has increased the price of the Pixel 8 Pro by $100, and now the Pixel 8 Pro costs $999, up from $899 in the US. In India, the Pixel 8 Pro now costs Rs 1,06,999—up from Rs 84,999 that the Pixel 7 Pro retails for.

Pixel 8 Pro vs Pixel 7 Pro: Software Support

With the Pixel 8 series, Google is committing to 7 years of OS, security, and feature drop updates, which means that Pixel 8 devices will be supported until 2030 and will get Android 21. This has set a new benchmark for the industry to follow, and not even Apple offers this kind of support. In contrast, the Pixel 7 Pro gets 3 years of OS updates and 5 years of security patches.
