India has raised a nationwide alert to secure Israeli nationals, including diplomats, staff, and tourists, in the country in view of the ongoing Israel-Palestine war.
An alert has been issued and shared with all security establishments concerned and the police, asking to strengthen the security of a few listed places. Heavy deployment has also been ensured in places that see high footfall of Israeli nationals.
On Friday, an Israel embassy staffer was attacked in Beijing, China. The incident has been confirmed by the Israeli foreign ministry, which said that the victim is in a stable condition and under treatment.
On the other side, the Indian agencies have already sounded an alert regarding the security of Israeli nationals.
It has been learnt that the alert also talks about Jewish festivals in October where security needs to be provided.
Local police of the national capital and Mumbai have been asked to keep a strict round-the-clock vigil, as both the metropolitan cities have seen attacks in the past.
“In view of the latest development, it is requested to strengthen the security arrangement for Israeli missions, diplomats, officials, staff, business establishments, Chabad houses, Jewish community centres,” a top government official quoting the letter told News18.
Further, all the required law enforcement agencies have been asked to beef up security at various Israeli tourist sites, security of Israeli delegations, Kosher restaurants, museums, schools, resorts, and other key areas.
Officials have been asked to deploy security personnel in adequate numbers along with other necessary arrangements. The staff have been given detailed SoP and asked to remain alert to avoid any untoward incidents.
Sources said the alert has been sent to all states and is not restricted to metropolitan cities. The alert has also been sent to places where these nationals are residing in big numbers.
Israel officials remain under threat and Delhi has seen terror incidents in the past against the community.
Two years ago, a minor bomb exploded near the Israeli embassy in the national capital. The incident happened just after the Beating the Retreat ceremony ended in Lutyen’s Delhi. Before this incident, almost 11 years back, a diplomat’s wife was injured when a bomb was planted in her official car. She was on her way to pick up her children from school and suffered injuries due to the blast.
Also, during the 26/11 attacks, terrorists targeted Nariman House in Mumbai which is designated as a Chabad house.
