UGC Revises Financial Grant For Fellowship Programmes
The adjustments encompass Junior Research Fellowships (JRF), Senior Research Fellowships (SRF) and Post-Doctoral Fellowships, with increased monthly stipends

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has recently announced substantial revisions to the financial aid provided under the UGC Fellowship Scheme. These changes, which were discussed and approved during the 572nd meeting held on September 20, are to be effective from January 1, 2023. The adjustments encompass Junior Research Fellowships (JRF), Senior Research Fellowships (SRF) and Post-Doctoral Fellowships, with increased monthly stipends.

These revised amounts will benefit around 31,000 students. The UGC has also mentioned that the percentage for calculating the House Rent Allowance, wherever applicable, will be based on the fellowship amount of the candidates.

Revised fellowship amounts:

JRF in Science, Humanities, and Social Sciences:

– Previous Amount (per month): Rs 31,000 for 2 years

– New Amount (per month): Rs 37,000 for 2 years

SRF in Science, Humanities, and Social Sciences:

– Previous Amount (per month): Rs 35,000 for the remaining tenure

– New Amount (per month): Rs 42,000 for the remaining period

Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Fellowship for Single Girl Child:

– Previous Amount (per month): Rs 31,000 for 2 years

– New Amount (per month): Rs 37,000 for 2 years

Dr. DS Kothari Post-Doctoral Fellowship (Higher Post-Doctoral Fellowship):

– Previous Amount (per month): Rs 54,000 for the entire tenure

– New Amount (per month): Rs 67,000 for the entire tenure

Post-Doctoral Fellowship:

– Previous Amount (per month): Rs 47,000 for the first year, Rs 49,000 for the second year and Rs 54,000 for the third year

– New Amount (per month): Rs 58,000 for the first year, Rs 61,000 for the second year and Rs 67,000 for the third year

Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Women, SC/ST, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Post-Doctoral Fellowship:

– Previous Amount (per month): Rs 47,000 for the first year, Rs 49,000 for the second year and Rs 54,000 for the third year onwards

– New Amount (per month): Rs 58,000 for the first year, Rs 61,000 for the second year and Rs 67,000 for the third year onwards
