'Very Bizarre Statement': Gautam Gambhir on 'Best Team Did Not Win the World Cup' Remarks

Former Indian cricketer and World Cup winner, Gautam Gambhir slammed Mohammed Kaif’s statement after Australia managed to win their sixth World Cup title in Ahmedabad in a shocking upset.

For context, Former Indian cricketer and finalist at the 2003 World Cup, Mohammed Kaif in the post-match segments shared his thoughts when he said that the best side did not win the World Cup. He also added that the best team on paper was India and no one else.

Gautam Gambhir slammed such talks regarding the best team did not win the World Cup. He said,” It’s the best team that wins the World Cup, as simple as it gets.”

The former opening batter praised India’s performances in the tournament, he added, “India managed to play absolutely fabulously well, played some fantastic cricket and ultimately, whoever wins the World Cup is the best team.”

Gambhir addressed the talks regarding Kaif’s statements indirectly terming it as  ‘bizarre’ and emphasised that the best team indeed did win the World Cup.

Two-time World Cup winner, David Warner had also slammed the statement in a tweet he posted on his official handle as well as the Australians were the better side on the day.

India will look to put the big loss behind them as they eye the T20 World Cup 2024 which is held in West Indies and United States of America jointly. The Indian side will look to get their hands on the trophy that has eluded them since the inaugural edition in 2007 when the side was led by a younger MS Dhoni.
