Mohammed Siraj was picked as the player-of-the-match for taking seven wickets in Cape Town Test.

The Indian men’s cricket team’s 2024 has started with a bang as they completed a first-ever Test win in a Cape Town beating South Africa by seven wickets to also draw the two-match series 1-1.

The pacers were the architect of their historic win on the bouncy pitch at the Newlands stadium with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj combining for 15 wickets as India completed the win inside two days.

Siraj took a six-fer in the first innings as South Africa were shot out for a mere 55. Bumrah followed the suit in the second innings with a six-wicket haul of his own.

For his superlative show in the first dig, Siraj, who took 6/15 from 9 overs, was declared player-of-the-match.

During the post-match presentation Bumrah joined Siraj for a chat with the broadcasters with the former also playing the role of a translator for his teammate.

Jassi bhai humesha jo wo start karte hain, toh message milta hai ki kaun se wicket pe kaunsi line and length better hai. Toh message milne say mujhe zyada sochne ki zarurat nahi rethi hai. Consistently woh cheez pe work karenge toh success milega. Woh saamne end pe rahe toh bohot he achha hai,” Siraj said praising Bumrah.

It loosely translates to “I get an indication of the right line and length from how Jasprit Bumrah starts from his end. So, I don’t have to think much, just have to follow Bumrah and success follows. His presence from one end makes it easy.”

Bumrah though skipped the part where Siraj credited him for helping him zero in on the better line and lengths to bowl on a particular pitch.

“So yeah, because when we play along together, he gets the message earlier because of oour experience. We try to analyse the wicket quicker so that communication goes in the bowling circuit that this is the wicket and this is what we are looking to do. So that helps him sometimes,” said Bumrah.
