As health experts from across the globe caution people about ‘Disease X’, panicky social media users resorted to ‘X’ to put forward their queries. This comes in just when the world has gradually returned to a sense of normalcy after the catastrophic Covid-19 pandemic. The exact nature of the next disease remains uncertain as of now. However, experts have acknowledged the presence of an imminent threat that could take away the lives of 50 million people.

Dame Kate Bingham, who chaired the UK’s vaccine taskforce, has issued a warning claiming that the next pandemic could claim at least 50 million lives. She further cautioned that the disease could prove to be more than seven times as deadly as the coronavirus. As her word spread, people on social media got panicky and started posting about it.

“What is Disease X ? It’s supposed to be 20 times more deadlier than the recent Covid-19 that the world had encountered. Another impending pandemic on the way! Let’s be cautious. UK confirms,” wrote at X user.

Meanwhile, drawing parallels with the catastrophic 1918–19 flu pandemic, Kate said, “Today, we could expect a similar death toll from one of the many viruses that already exist. Today, there are more viruses busily replicating and mutating than all the other life forms on our planet combined.”
