Breather for Vasundhara Raje, BJP unlikely to act immediately against her in Lalit Modi row: Sources
New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje can breathe a sigh of relief for some time as the Bharatiya Janata Party is unlikely to take an immediate decision against her over allegations in the controversy surrounding former Indian Premier League (IPL) chief Lalit Modi.
According to sources, the BJP is not going to take any action against the Rajasthan CM immediately. The decision comes after Raje told the BJP that she signed Lalit Modi's immigration papers in her personal capacity as his friend and not as an official. Sources also say that Raje claims she did not depose before any court of law.
Sources also reveal that Raje has claimed that the document did not help Lalit Modi in United Kingdom. Raje is consulting experts to see if she can take legal action on the document being leaked.
Raje on Thursday insisted that she has not been asked to resign and claimed that media is running "false" reports to tarnish her image and cause "political damage". A statement issued by the Chief Minister's Press Advisor said a few electronic news channels were showing reports beyond the truth.
"By tarnishing or damaging her image, the channels are causing political damage to Chief Minister," it said. "Electronic media should not run false news based on rumours. Such news are baseless and rumour-oriented, and before running such news, a confirmation and investigation should be required," it said.
The Chief Minister is in the dock for reportedly giving an affidavit in favour of Lalit Modi, former IPL Commissioner who is facing ED probe into alleged money laundering in connection with organising of IPL tournament. Lalit Modi has relocated to London ever since the probe began in 2010.
