New Delhi: Cabinet on Wednesday cleared a special package for West Bengal of Rs, 8750 crore from Backward Area Grant Fund.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had, however, insisted on a package of Rs 19,000 crore for the state.
This came a month after Trinamool Congress MPs met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over hike in petrol prices and had insisted on a package for the state.
This comes on a day when the government suspended the FDI in retail decision amidst differences between the Centre and Mamata Banerjee over the issue.
