Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is all set to take charge of India's grand old party. After the recent drubbing in the 2016 Assembly elections, there was a widespread call for a major surgery within the party. Sources say the much awaited change of guard in the Congress may happen soon with president Sonia Gandhi making way for her son.
Five members of the Nehru-Gandhi family have been Congress president till date and most likely Rahul will be the sixth candidate to follow suit.
Former PM Jawaharlal Nehru has been the president of the Congress five times while current president Sonia has been at the helm for more than 18 years.
Sources said Rahul is likely to be supported by a new team consisting of Congress leaders Sachin Pilot, RPN Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasada, Ajay Maken and Randeep Surjewala amongst others.
