Ahmedabad: Continuing his criticism against the Congress-led UPA government, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that corruption has destroyed the dignity of the Prime Minister's post.
"Widespread corruption has destroyed the dignity of the Prime Minister's post since people under him have begun indulging in more corruption," Modi said, at a function in Modasa, organised to felicitate him for carving out Aravalli as a separate district from Sabarkantha district on August 15.
Reminding about the Nav Nirman Andolan, a 1974 youth movement against corruption, Modi appealed to the crowd to show the same zeal now and free the country from corrupt rulers.
"If we all move ahead after being inspired by the Nav Nirman Andolan, we will automatically bring change and free our country from its present corrupt rulers," Modi said.
Claiming that the issue of development was not being raised merely as a ploy to win the forthcoming elections, Modi said, "Our aim is to raise common people's standard of living with development. Our government works for the people and one day we will take Gujarat to such a height that our state becomes the pride of the whole world."
