After swearing in for the ninth time with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday claimed that he “suggested a different name” for the INDIA alliance but their leaders gave another name. “Humko kya matlab? (I don’t care about them) They did nothing on seat sharing despite my repeated requests,” Kumar said.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the INDIA bloc’s working, Kumar said, “I was trying so hard. They did not do even one thing. Till today they haven’t decided which party will contest how many seats. This is why I left them and returned to who I was with initially. I will keep working for the people of Bihar.”

He further called his former deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav a “kid”. “He doesn’t know how much work JDU has done for the state,” the Bihar CM said.
On being asked about Rahul Gandhi and if he thinks the Congress leader was trying to steal credit for the Bihar caste census, Nitish said, “Has he forgotten when the caste census happened? I conducted it in the presence of 9 parties. In 2019-2020, I would talk about conducting caste census everywhere, from assemblies to public meetings. He is taking fake credit, what can I do? Let it be.”
The chief minister also added that the teacher’s recruitment programme was his vision and the opposition parties were trying to take credit for the same.
Meanwhile, The new NDA government in Bihar led by Nitish Kumar will seek a trust vote in the assembly on February 10, according to a notification issued on Tuesday.
The government will seek the trust vote on the first day of the budget session after the customary address by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to both Houses of the legislature, the notification issued by the Parliamentary Affairs Department said.
Kumar, the president of the JD(U), took oath as chief minister of Bihar for a record ninth time on Sunday after a dramatic flip-flop, ditching the INDIA bloc, and forming the new government with the BJP.
Opposition’s Reaction to Nitish Kumar’s Blow
On Nitish Kumar’s shocking blow to the INDIA bloc ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said the Mahagathbandhan’ will continue fighting for social justice in Bihar, and the alliance “does not need” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the cause.
Speaking at a rally in Purnea district, where his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered during the day, Gandhi also took a swipe at Kumar for switching sides frequently.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar did not do the right thing by exiting INDIA bloc, calling his conduct not good for democracy.
