Mumbai: Shibu Soren, who is all set to become the next chief minister of Jharkhand, on Monday said the new alliance comprising Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) will provide a stable government in the mineral-rich state.
"Jharkhand needs a stable government and we are confident of providing one," JMM chief Soren said at a joint press conference with BJP President Nitin Gadkari in Mumbai on Monday.
Soren said he was aware of the functioning of Gadkari and was confident that the alliance will work well.
"While Jharkhand is a mineral-rich state, the people there are poor. It is a paradox...a stable government can help improve the situation," Soren said.
On his part, Gadkari said all the alliance partners will evolve a common programme for governance in Jharkhand.
He said the Soren-led government will take oath of office on Wednesday.
"We will ensure all-round development of the state," he said.
Gadkari also defended the party's decision of supporting Soren to form the next Government in Jharkhand saying that stability and interests of the people of that state were the only concerns.
Gadkari said it was Congress and not Soren who was responsible for corruption in politics.
"The courts have also taken a decision in his favour," he said.
Gadkari said BJP had no option but to support Soren to provide a stable government in the interests of the people of the state.
Soren will be sworn in as chief minister for the third time on December 30 after Governor K Sankarananaryanan on Sunday invited the tribal leader to form the government.
The JMM which has 18 MLAs has got the assured support of BJP(18), JD(U)(two) AJSU(five) and Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch one). There was no final word on whether BJP and JD(U) will be part of the government.
