New Delhi: A decision on Bharatiya Janata Party strongman BS Yeddyurappa's demand to remove Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda will now be taken by the BJP Parliamentary Unit.
Yeddyruppa wants Gowda to be replaced by his loyalist Jagadish Shettar but the party leadership is not keen on replacing the Chief Minister. Nine ministers on Friday tendered their resignation ruling out a "compromise" and reiterated that making their nominee Jagadish Shettar chief minister of the state was their main demand.
Gowda, however, refused to accept their resignations and expressed confidence of resolving it with the intervention of the party's central leadership. Sources said the BJP's central leadership wants Yeddyurappa to wait till the Presidential poll and might agree to accomodate Shettar as Karnataka's deputy chief minister.
Meanwhile, the party central leadership has summoned Gowda to New Delhi to resolve the crisis.
Gowda would fly to New Delhi on July 2 and meet BJP President Nitin Gadkari, among other central leaders, to discuss the political crisis in the state, sources in the Chief Minister's Office said.
The summons comes hours after the turmoil in the BJP state unit showed no signs of abating as the Yeddyurappa camp stuck to its one-point agenda of ousting Gowda.
State BJP President KS Eshwarappa, who met Gowda, said there was no question of accepting the resignations.
