Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Wednesday said he was confident about the formation of the eighth Left Front government in the state after defeating the Congress-Trinamool Congress alliance.
"From the very beginning, we knew that they would forge an alliance," Bhattacharjee told a press conference here. "We are not bothered about the alliance. What we are bothered about is that we need to go to the people and get at least more than 50 percent of the mandate from each and every constituency and area," he added.
"We are confident about the formation of the eighth Left Front government by defeating this alliance," the chief minister said. When asked if this is the toughest election, he said: "No. I have seen many elections, specially 2001 and 2006. At that time also, there was a media hype that we were facing a tough election. But we have proved everybody wrong."
Under the seat-sharing deal, Trinamool will contest 227 seats out of the total 294 seats and the ally Congress will field 65 candidates in the April-May assembly polls.
