Sita and Laxman will be seeking votes for Ram in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Actors Deepika Chikhlia and Sunil Lahri, who played the characters of Sita and Laxman, in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, will campaign in Meerut for BJP candidate Arun Govil, who played Ram in the legendary television serial.
Chikhlia and Lahri, along with other characters from the show, have confirmed that they will be seeking votes for Govil. On Tuesday, he filed his nomination amid the presence of BJP leaders from the Uttar Pradesh unit. BJP leaders, including deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, and regional president Satendra Sisodia.
“Our best wishes are with him. We have a long association, even recently during the pran pratishtha we were together. Definitely, we will be canvassing for Govil, who is a good friend of ours,” Chikhlia said.
Other than the onscreen Sita, Lahri, too, has assured complete support for his fellow actor and said he does not mind seeking votes for Govil, who shares a strong bond with him.
“I won’t mind seeking votes for my dear friend,” said the onscreen Laxman.

Other characters from the serial, too, have given their consent to canvas for Govil. This is expected to recreate a Ramayan-like scene in the poll battle.
The constituency will be voting on April 26. Other prominent candidates include Atul Pradhan from the Samajwadi Party and Devvrat Tyagi from the BSP.
In the 2019 general elections, Meerut witnessed a fierce contest in which the voter turnout was 61.45 per cent. Rajendra Agarwal of the BJP won the election with a victory of 4,729 votes, securing a total of 5,86,184 votes. He defeated Haji Mohammad Yaqoob of the BSP, who got 5,81,455 votes.
