Raebareli: Congress star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi hit the campaign trail in Raebareli along with brother Rahul Gandhi on Friday. While Rahul took digs at Prime Minister Narendra Modi likening him to the character of "Gabbar Singh" from the iconic film "Sholay", Priyanka emphasised the importance of an independent woman.

Designating Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an "outsider", she said that UP didn't need him and exhorted the attendees to stand shoulder to shoulder with the SP-Congress alliance.

"Prime Minister Modi says he is against women persecution, but still makes them stand in the long queues," she said.

Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand, mounted the criticism of PM Modi's demonetisation drive and said, "Demonetisation hit the small businesses and shopkeepers badly." He urged women in Raebareli to vote the SP-Congress alliance to power in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi also said that the Congress-SP alliance will change Uttar Pradesh and provide jobs to the youth and help farmers if voted to lead the state.

Congress also upped the ante against PM Modi over an alleged "loan waiver" to Vijay Mallya, who is currently living in the UK. Rahul said that PM Modi offered a "toffee of Rs 1200 crore to Vijay Mallya".

"However, when the farmers and youth ask for money, PM Modi makes them stand in line," Rahul said, referring to the long queues outside banks and ATMs post demonetisation.

Raebareli is slated to go to polls in the fourth phase of Uttar Pradesh elections on February 23.
