New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Tuesday began on a stormy note with Congress and government engaging in a bitter war of words over Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand issue.
Senior Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of violating constitutional norms in Arunachal Pradesh and said that Supreme Court gave a befitting reply to Centre's arrogance.
"The Central government in its attempt to have a Congress-mukt government is trying to destabilise the Congress governed states from the backdoor. This is wrong. They tried to do the same in Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh but they could not succeed. We thank the Supreme Court for upholding the democracy in Arunachal Pradesh," Kharge said.
The government's defence was led by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and he claimed that political crisis developed in the states due to internal problems of the Congress.
"The Congress allegations on us are wrong. It is the Congress party that has the habit of trying to destabilise popular government always. We do not beleive in this. The situation that developed in Uttarakhand and Arunachal was due to internal problems in Congress party. BJP has no role in destabilising govt in Arunachal or Uttarakhand," Singh said.
There was uproar in the House as Congress objected to Singh's remarks and staged a walkout. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi lead the walkout.
The Supreme Court had on July 13 quashed the imposition of President's Rule in Arunachal Pradesh and ordered restoration of the Congress government in the state.
