Will Settle Matter With Kerala Contractor Out of Court: Congress leader
The contractor Heather Constructions which built the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies sent a legal notice to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders over non payment of dues.

Thiruvananthapuram: After a Kerala contractor sent a legal notice to Congress leaders over non payment of dues, former Kerala home minister Ramesh Chennithala has come out in the party's defence.

"I started this project when I was the KPCC president. Now that it is bearing completion, Rs 2 crore was to be paid to the contractor. Some delay has occurred in this as there was a paucity of funds and there is also some clarity needed on some bills that he has submitted. We have to pay them to the contractor. We are going to settle this matter out of court," Chennithala said.

The contractor Heather Constructions which built the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies sent a legal notice to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders over non payment of dues. Heather Constructions managing director Rajeev also filed a Rs 50 lakh recovery suit against Sonia.

The other leaders who have been named in the legal notice include Chennithala, former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president VM Sudheeran.

According to party insiders the dues were not cleared because of an intra-party feud in the Kerala unit of the Congress.

According to Rajeev, his company was given the contract to construct the institute in Thiruvananthapuram but the dues were not cleared.

Sonia, who had inaugurated the institute in October 2005, had asked KPCC to settle the dues after the company sent a legal notice. But there company claims that it did not receive any money.
