New Delhi: The CPI-M on Wednesday opposed any bailout package for airlines sector as demanded by industry leaders, saying the present crisis was their own making.
"They (airlines) are facing a crisis because of their own making. Nobody else is at fault for this," CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury said.
"Then you want the taxpayers' money and virtually state stepping in to help private capitalist to continue making profit," he added.
Airlines, both private and state-owned that are already facing high fuel costs, are reeling under the effects of the global financial crisis with drop in premium air traveller numbers.
The airlines have sought a bailout package worth Rs 4,750 crore to tide over the crisis spawned by fuel costs and poor load factor.
