Songwriter-music director Hamsalekha, who works predominantly in the Kannada film industry, has a sizable fan following. Hamsalekha has mentored several notable singers, music directors and lyricists in the industry which include big names like Rajesh Krishnan, V Harikrishna and V Manohar. Now, some of his disciples have come up with a movie, composed entirely of newcomers. The film is tited Thooth Kasu. Debutante director Ravi Tejas has helmed Thooth Kasu. Varun Deviah has acted as the male lead, while Prisha and Prerna Bhatt are seen as female leads.
The film team held press meetings recently on the pretext of releasing the movie’s songs and trailer. They interacted with the media as well. When asked about the film’s title, Ravi Tejas explained that Thooth Kasu is a term in South Indian languages, particularly in Tamil and Malayalam, referring to a small, ancient copper coin. The term Thooth means copper or bronze, and Kasu refers to a coin. These coins were commonly used historically in the region and were typically quite small, often about the size of a fingernail or slightly larger. Ravi Tejas said that these coins became defunct once the British colonised India.
Ravi Tejas added that the movie was not based around these coins and neither is it a period film. He said that the word Thooth Kasu has been used as a code word in the film. According to him, Thooth Kasu revolves around mafia gangs and yet it is a lighthearted film. He said that he would categorise the film in the comedy genre.
The music of the film is by debutante Loki Tavasya and renowned singer and music director Vasuki Vaibhav has sung a song for this film. The release date for the film has not yet been divulged.
