Filmmaker Gautham Menon, renowned for his 2006 neo-noir action thriller Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, has recently sparked excitement with revelations about its sequel. The news has quickly gained traction across social media platforms.
In a recent media interaction, director Gautham Menon disclosed that he has crafted the storyline for Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2 and is eager to present it to Kamal Haasan at the opportune moment. However, due to their busy schedules, they have yet to meet. Menon expressed regret over not having the chance to discuss the sequel in detail with Haasan, despite brief interactions in the past. Nevertheless, he affirmed his commitment to realising the sequel shortly.
Recent reports indicate that the re-release of Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu in theatres has garnered substantial revenue. The film, featuring Kamal Haasan, Jyothika and Kamalinee Mukherjee in pivotal roles, alongside Prakash Raj, Daniel Balaji and Salim Baig in supporting roles, revolves around DCP Raghavan’s pursuit of two serial killers.
The movie, lauded for its gripping narrative, was enhanced by the musical compositions of Harris Jayaraj, with lyrics penned by Thamarai. Ravi Varman’s cinematography and Anthony’s editing further elevated its visual appeal. Notably, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu was among the first Indian films shot in Super 35 format.
Upon its initial release on August 25, 2006, the film received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike, emerging as a significant box-office success. Haasan’s stellar portrayal earned him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor. Despite being budgeted at Rs 24 crore, the film surpassed expectations by grossing Rs 50 crore at the box office.
Meanwhile, Gautham Menon’s latest directorial venture, the Tamil-language action thriller Joshua: Imai Pol Kaakha, produced by Ishari K. Ganesh, features Varun in the lead role, supported by Krishna and debutant Raahei. The film, accompanied by Karthik’s soundtrack, showcases S. R. Kathir’s editing and Anthony’s cinematography. Released on March 1, 2024, the film received a mixed reception from critics.
