Suriya And Sudha Kongara's 1965 Purananooru Faces Uncertainty, Shoot Postponed Indefinitely
It's been reported that the film is centred around the anti-Hindi movement of the 1960s.

South star Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru directed by Sudha Kongara did not get a theatrical release and was released directly on Amazon Prime Video in 2020 but that did not stop the film from being highly successful. It won considerable critical acclaim and also entered the Panorama Section of the Shanghai International Film Festival. The film’s success has even led to a Hindi remake titled Sarfira starring Akshay Kumar being announced, Fans were excited after the actor-director duo had announced another collaboration of theirs titled 1965 Purananooru.

It is reported that the film is centred around the anti-Hindi movement of the 1960s. Originally, the shoot was scheduled to kickstart on March 27. However, on March 18, Suriya and Sudha Kongara jointly announced the postponement of the shoot. The conflicting reports regarding the film’s status suggest that it has either been abandoned or put on hold. However, the real reason behind this decision appears to be related to the scheduling of the shoot.

The majority of the scenes in 1965 Purananooru are set in a college environment. The filmmakers planned to shoot these scenes during college vacations and had scheduled the shoot to begin on March 27. They aimed to complete a significant portion of the filming during April. However, as the parliamentary elections are about to take place in April, it may not be possible to shoot in April as planned. Even if Suriya plans to shoot for the film immediately after the elections, the dates are clashing with his Hindi film with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra on the character of Mahabharat’s Karna.

This is why the production team of 1965 Purananooru is yet unsure about the commencement of the shoot. Meanwhile, Suriya is gearing up for his release Kanguva, a fantasy action film with a high budget, directed by Siva. Made on a budget of around Rs 300–350 crore, Kanguva is one of the most expensive Indian films to date. The release date has not yet been divulged.
