No, Narayana Murthy & Elon Musk Are Not Collaborating - Check How Deepfakes Mislead You
Bad actors have created Narayana Murthy's deepfake videos to spread misinformation in a potential bid for monetary gain. Here's what you must know.

Two viral videos of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy are circulating across multiple platforms on the internet, but primarily on Facebook. In these videos, he can be seen promoting a new investing platform called ‘Quantum AI,’ in partnership with billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. However, as you would have guessed, these are indeed deepfake videos created to spread misinformation in a potential bid for monetary gain by the creators.

The videos have now been deleted, but this comes at a time when deepfake videos have proliferated the internet. Recently, videos of actresses—including Rashmika Mandanna, Alia Bhatt, and Kajol—were spotted on social media platforms, defaming and causing undue humiliation.

“Today I want to present our new project together with Elon Musk. Quantum AI is the world’s first quantum computing software developed by my team and Elon’s team with a 94 per cent success rate,” the digitally altered voice of Narayan Murthy says. The video further claims that people can earn up to “$3,000 on their first working day.”

Now, a major giveaway for the video to be considered fake is Narayana Murthy’s lip movement in the clip. Not only is it out of sync with the altered audio, but it seems unnatural. As reported by Moneycontrol, the video isn’t a pitch to potential investors but from Moneycontrol’s Startup Conclave in Bengaluru that took place on July 7.

Another video also promotes the fake Quantum AI platform, wherein Murthy says, “Today I want to present a new project with a 94 per cent success rate of Quantum AI. This is the world’s first quantum computing software developed by my team.” This is also a deepfake video from Business Today’s ‘Mindrush.’

Narayana Murthy Expressed His Concern About AI and Deepfakes

It must be noted that Narayana Murthy has already spoken about the dangers of deepfakes and the impact of artificial intelligence on the IT industry. “Deepfakes are an issue or even in the context of any technology getting into an evil mind, that’s always an issue,” Murthy told Moneycontrol.

He added: “Conferences are happening all over the world on how to contain the not-so-desirable impact or effects of AI. And I’m sure that there are a lot of brilliant people who are working on it. So I am much more positive than negative about it.”
