The security warnings continue to cause concerns for Indian users in June. Recently, we talked about risks posing people who bought the Apple Vision Pro headset.
And now, there is a new security warning for Chrome users from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team of CERT-In. The new security bulletin dated June 14 comes with a high-severity rating which affects millions of Chrome users on PC and Linux systems.
Chrome Alert: WHAT DOES CERT-IN SECURITY WARNING SAY
Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Chrome which could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the targeted system.” the security bulletin highlighted.
As mentioned by CERT-In, these vulnerabilities exist in Chrome due to Type Confusion in V8, Use after free in Dawn, V8, BrowserUI, Audio; inappropriate implementation in Dawn, DevTools, Memory Allocator, Downloads; Heap Buffer overflow in Tab Groups, Tap Strip and Policy Bypass in CORS
In simple words, if the attacker manages to bypass the security of the system and exploit these issues, they can get the victim to visit a targeted malicious website which can be very dangerous.
So, if you have been using Chrome on either Windows, macOS or a Linux machine, you need to make sure these versions of the browser are not running on your system:
– Google Chrome versions prior to 126.0.6478.56/57 for Windows and Mac
– Google Chrome versions prior to 126.0.6478.54 for Linux
CHROME SECURITY WARNING: Should You Be Worried?
To be safe, users must download the latest available software update for Google Chrome on Windows, macOS and Linux. You can do this by heading over to the three-dot menu on Chrome – Settings – About – Update Chrome. Google has listed the security fixes that come with the stable channel update.
