New Delhi: After issuing security patch for its Firefox browser which contained a major security loophole, Mozilla has released the next version of its web browser that comes packed with new features and offers more protection from malware.
Firefox 40 for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android includes official Windows 10 support and more protection against unwanted software downloads. The updated web browser also includes new navigational features on Android platform.
It comes with the security patch issued with Firefox 39.0.3. One of the features that offer more protection against malicious web pages shows warning if you visit a page known to contain deceptive software that could potentially take over your system. As the warning feature is enabled by default, users who prefer not to send any data about downloaded files to Google can turn off this feature.
Although earlier versions of the browser worked on Windows 10, but with Firefox 40, Mozilla is making it official with a few subtle design changes which include larger new tab and tab close buttons and some icons in darker hue. It has further reduced overall browser UI footprint to increase space for viewing the web.
Firefox 40 for Android includes new gestures. You can now long-press on the back and forward navigation buttons to bring up the history list. JPEG images use less memory when scaled and can be painted faster. It further includes more protection from unwanted downloads.
Mozilla is working with add-on developers to maintain the security standards. The next Firefox 41 version will disable all extensions that haven’t been certified and the Firefox 42 will not allow unsigned extensions to be installed and there would be no way to override it.
