Even as the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi gears up to implement the odd-even formula from January 1, it has launched the PoochhO app for commuters to help them book taxis, autos and also track bus information along with traffic information.
The app developed by Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd (DIMTS) can be installed from Google Play as a 3.52 MB download or by giving a missed call to 9243007040 to get the download URL via a text message.
DIMTS is a joint venture of Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi & IDFC Foundation.
The app that promises to help Delhiites make their commute easier during the odd-even test phase has been a non-starter with the app crashing repeatedly on many smartphones. IBNLive tested the app on multiple phones and found that it crashed repeatedly on many phones, often right at the home screen.
On the few phones on which we could proceed deeper into the app, the experience wasn't fulfilling. The app appears to be poorly designed and basic features such as the navigation menu absent on a number of screens. Our tests of the app show that the app often fails to perform even core abilities such as booking a taxi/auto.
Many users have also reported similar issues in the reviews for the app on Google Play.
Another version of the app - PoochhO Driver - is available on Google Play and is meant for auto/taxi drivers in Delhi.
The odd-even plan for four-wheeled vehicles, unveiled by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is aimed at reducing pollution in Delhi. Under the plan, four-wheelers with odd registration numbers would ply on odd dates and those with even numbers would run on even dates. There will be no curbs on Sundays. The scheme will be effective from 8 AM to 8 PM. Some categories of vehicles have been exempted from the plan.
