Amrita Singh made her big screen debut in 1983 with the film Betaab, co-starring Sunny Deol. Since then, she worked on a number of successful films, including Naam, Khudgarz, Toofan and much more. The actress had taken a hiatus from her acting career in the 90s, but did you know she made her comeback with a famous TV show in 2005? Amrita Singh returned to the screens with Ektaa Kapoor’s daily soap Kkavyanjali, which also starred Anita Hassanandani and Eijaz Khan.
Amrita Singh played the role of Nitya Nanda, who was the mother-in-law to Anita Hassanandani’s character Anjali. She was the antagonist in the show who created troubles in Anjali’s life. While joining the show back in 2005, Amrita Singh opened up about working for TV in an interview with IANS. She stated, “The hours are so stretched out, sometimes I feel I’m overworked. We don’t have a bank of episodes for the serial Kavyanjali that I’m doing. We’re trying to create that. Which means lots more work.”
This was also the time Amrita Singh had separated with Saif Ali Khan. Moreover, she also shared why she decided to make her comeback with Ektaa Kapoor’s show. In the same interview, she mentioned, “My producer Ekta Kapoor has been mind-blowing. I’ve the highest regard for her. I got offers from almost every channel, and many movie offers in Bollywood. But I wanted to work with Ekta.”
Kkavyanjali was one of Ektaa Kapoor’s prominent productions for Star Plus and went off air in 2006. Apart from Amrita Singh and Anita Hassanandani, Eijaz Khan played the male lead, Kkavya Nanda. Famous television performers such as Hiten Tejwani, Kishwer Merchant, and Ronit Roy were cast for supporting roles in the show. The premise of Kkavyanjali revolved around the story of two lovers who are separated due to their destiny. In 2019, the show had completed 15 years, and to commemorate the same, Ektaa Kapoor shared an old promo from the show.
Post Kkavyanjali, Amrita Singh has been part of many movies, such as 2 States, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Hindi Medium, and Badla, among others. Meanwhile, Anita Hassanandani is also back on television with the new show Suman Indori, starring Ashnoor Kaur and Zain Imam.
