Tennis icon Sania Mirza’s family shared a message expressing that the 37-year-old Indian star and ex-husband and former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik have been divorced for a few months now after the former cricketer shared images of his second wedding with Pakistani actress Sana Javed on Saturday.
The family of the star from Hyderabad said in a message, “Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now.”
“She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead,” the message read.
The message from the Mirza family and the player’s team requested fans to respect her privacy and abstain from indulging in speculation.
“At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy.”
Malik caused up a stir as he posted images from his second wedding to the Pakistani thespian, following which Mirza’s father, Imran, said that his daughter and the 41-year-old former cricketer had divorced through ‘Khula’, before Malik tied the knot for the second time.
A khula is an Islamic jurisprudence through which a woman can initiate a divorce from her husband unilaterally.
Malik and Mirza tied the knot back in the year 2010 in the tennis player’s hometown of Hyderabad and have a son together.
Earlier, Mirza shared a cryptic message on her social media handle that read, “Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard! Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard! Being in debt is hard. Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard! Communication is hard. Not communicating is hard. Choose your hard! Life will never be easy. It will always be hard. But we can choose our hard. Pick Wisely!”
Sana, the actress who married Malik, was earlier married to singer Umair Jaswal back in the year 2020 but the pair decided to get a divorce a couple of months ago according to reports.
