'A Joke': Pakistan Super League Trolled After Win Forecast Shows Negative Prediction

A technological error occurred in the win predictor during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators on Friday. It turned out to be a gripping encounter at the National Stadium Karachi where the Gladiators clinched the victory on the final ball. The Karachi-based franchise batted first in the home game and set a comprehensive target of 166 runs. Quetta Gladiators could make a positive start to the chase but a collapse in the middle order brought them in a difficult situation in the latter phase of the innings.

When the visitors needed 3 runs off the last two deliveries, the win predictor popped up on the screen. It displayed Karachi had a “-1 percent” chance of winning the match, while Quetta had “101 percent”. Fans were quick to spot the error in the reading as the chance of winning a cricket match is somewhat impossible to be negative.

A screenshot of the win forecast was dropped on X (formerly Twitter) and quickly went viral for all the wrong reasons. Many cricket enthusiasts from India shared their thoughts in the comment section, slamming the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the rare mistake.

Taking a dig at the organisers of the tournament, one fan commented, “PSL is a joke.”

Another dropped a hilarious meme reference, predicting the reaction of the Karachi team staff after seeing the win prediction.

A fan reckons the prediction was mathematically correct but it was not meant to be shown in the last over. “It’s calculated mathematically and the equations are the same for international matches as well. It shouldn’t have been on TV in the last few overs. Broadcast mistake,” the person wrote.

An Indian fan feels the Women’s Premier League (WPL), underway in India, has “more crowd and standard than the PSL.”

Quetta Gladiators had the last laugh in the nail biting clash, with Sherfane Rutherford completing the chase with a boundary in the final delivery. After three batters returned with a single-digit score, Rutherford took over the charge. The West Indies all-rounder remained unbeaten at 58 runs. His blistering 31-ball innings was laced with six maximums and one boundary. Jason Roy also deserved much credit for the win as the opener scored a 31-ball 52, building the foundation for a successful chase.
