Anand Mahindra Hails Netherland's Massive Parking Lot Dedicated For Cyclists, Calls It ‘Modest Mobility’
With roughly 36% using it to move from one place to another, cycling is reportedly the second-most common mode of transport in the Netherlands.

Known for his influential presence on the internet, business tycoon Anand Mahindra never fails to amaze his followers with interesting social media posts. From motivational posts and funny clips to inspirational videos and memories, his timeline is a treasure trove for those looking for the right dose of motivation, humour, and social awareness to start the day afresh. This time, the industrialist shared a video showing a huge parking area in the Netherlands, designed particularly for bicycles.

The video was originally posted on X (formerly Twitter) by an X user who goes by the name De Filmende Fietser. The now-viral video shows a massive parking lot with well-designed signage and multiple levels all over. At the entrances, there are prominent signs indicating which lane to take for each floor, along with exit and merging traffic signs.

“The Netherlands, Cycling into the future. Incredible how they are devoting space to and designing spaces for, modest mobility,” wrote Chairman of the Mahindra Group Anand Mahindra, sharing the clip.

Soon after being shared, the business tycoon’s clip went viral, prompting reactions. A majority of users applauded the initiative taken by the Netherlands for travellers who use bicycles for their commute, while others questioned why India cannot start such an initiative and devote space for cyclists.

“That’s a really great design and incredible use of spaces,” read a comment.

An individual said, “This is so cool. Next question that comes to the mind is that can we not have this in India? I remember Lucknow had built dedicated cycle lanes in certain parts but the connectivity should be across the city.”

“The Netherlands is a cyclist’s dream with its mild climate, flat terrain, and incredible network of cycle paths that stretch through cities and the countryside. But, India is catching up fast!” an account said.

Another user added, “While this is an amazing shift, I wonder how we could encourage more countries to adopt this without needing the flat geography of the Netherlands.”

“It is truly inspiring to see how they are dedicating space and designing environments for ‘modest mobility.’ By promoting cycling, they are prioritising sustainable and healthy urban living. This approach not only facilitates easier transportation but also raises awareness about environmental issues,” posted a user.

With roughly 36% using it to move from one place to another, cycling is reportedly the second-most common mode of transport in the Netherlands.
