‘Don’t Call Me Bhaiya’: Cab Driver’s List Of Rules For Passengers Sparks Debate Online
His final rule was the most significant, as indicated by the red colour used to highlight it. The cab driver added that passengers should not beg him to speed up merely to get to their destination on time.

A cab driver’s list of conduct guidelines for passengers has sparked a heated debate online. The driver, determined to set clear boundaries, printed six rules and displayed them on the front passenger seat, asking customers to follow them during their rides. While some people have praised him for standing up to disrespectful passengers, others have criticised his demands as being overly strict.

He made several demands of the passengers, one of which was to stop calling him “bhaiya” (brother) and to behave with grace and respect at all times. The cab driver also reminded the customers that they were not the car’s owners.

The driver’s instructions were straightforward and precise. “You are not the owner of the cab. The person driving the cab is the owner of the cab. Speak politely and show respect. Close the door slowly. Put your attitude in your pocket, please don’t show it to us because you are not giving us extra money. Don’t call us ‘bhaiya,” the guidelines read.

Considering that red was selected to highlight his last rule, it was the most significant. The cab driver advised against asking him to speed up so that customers might get to their destination on time. “Don’t ask us to drive fast, be on time,” the last rule mentioned.

The list was shared by a user on Reddit. “I have booked a cab and the cab driver mentioned some guidelines on the cab! What do you think about these guidelines?,” the caption read.

Shared on October 11, the post has garnered over 2,000 upvotes and several comments.

Some claimed there was nothing wrong with setting limits, while others were perplexed by the driver’s insistence on not being called “bhaiya.”

A user on Reddit asked, “Most points are fair but what’s with – don’t call us bhaiya?”.

Another commented, “As long as it is mentioned for mutual respect it’s perfectly fine. And things like closing the door softly and not disturbing the driver are basic manners”.

“The beginning made sense, but at the end, it was just topped with a hypothetical ego & totalitarian attitude!” wrote a Reddit user.

“He’s right and there’s nothing wrong with his guidelines. Our country people has this habit of looking down on cab drivers, delivery people and stuff. In fact, this has to be common sense,” another comment read.
