After 127 years, the Godrej family confirmed their split on Tuesday, April 30. Following years of discussions, the business conglomerates declared a family settlement in which Jamshyd Godrej and Nyrika Holkar will run Godrej Enterprises, which includes Godrej & Boyce and its affiliates, while Adi and Nadir Godrej will run the group’s public firms. As anticipated, the announcement sparked discussion on social media, with many praising the manner in which the split was revealed. The tweet garnered 103,000 views on the platform with a number of reactions from the users in the comments section.

A user wrote, “That’s why they are still here and doing well even after 127 years. The class and aura never fade.”

Another user said, “True that. With the dignity they stand for.”

Meanwhile, a third user stated, “Amicable settlement…, that’s rare @hvgoenka (sic) sir! Kudos to the Godrejs to have pulled it off!”

The Godrej Industries Group (GIG) comprises the following listed entities: Godrej Properties, Godrej Agrovet, Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej Industries, and Astec Lifesciences. Nadir Godrej will serve as the chairperson of GIG, while Pirojsha Godrej will remain the Executive Vice Chairperson, succeeding Nadir in August 2026.

Godrej Enterprises’ chairperson and managing director, Jamshyd Godrej, along with executive director Nyrika Holkar, will oversee a range of businesses including aerospace, aviation, security, engines and motors, defence, energy, construction, building materials, green building consulting, intralogistics, EPC services, healthcare equipment, furniture, interior design, durables, architectural fittings, software, IT and infrastructure solutions.

Regarding the reasons behind the settlement, Godrej Industries stated in an exchange filing that both the 3rd and 4th generations of the Family Branches have different interests and perspectives regarding the strategic direction, expansion and management of the different Godrej Group entities.

They stated that the Family Branches have hence decided on a framework to handle the different expectations and strategic orientations that each Family Branch desires.
