'Magical': AI-Generated Photos Imagine Disney Princesses In 1950s South Asia
An AI artist reimagined Disney princesses as real-life South Asian women belonging to the era of the 1950s.

The power of AI has spread far and wide. It has seeped into every field, making our lives easier and better. Besides its usage in professional sectors, AI has also become a medium for entertainment for many social media users. Digital creators often use the tool to create tech-savvy artworks that display their skills and leave us mesmerised at the same time. Similarly, a Pakistani digital artist has now become the talk of the internet for his imaginative prowess, sprinkled with some AI modifications. He reimagined Disney princesses as real-life South Asian women belonging to the era of the 1950s.

AI artist Hashim Ali dropped the string of pictures on Instagram while “fooling around with” AI tool Midjourney. Once he gave the prompt to create Disney princesses of South Asian origin, the results that were generated were simply awe-inspiring. The first on the list was Ariel from Little Mermaid. In contrast to her green tail, the artist reimagined her to have a pink one. Laden with traditional South Indian jewellery, with a typical tanned skin tone, the AI illustration was simply perfect.

The following slide shows an Indian version of Snow White. Decked up in pink ethnic wear, she was seen lying inside a glass casket, much like in the fairytale. Belle from The Beauty and The Beast made an appearance in the next frame. She was dressed in a similar yellow costume and wore a set of traditional accessories. Standing beside her was the AI-created Beast. Replacing her iconic blue gown, Cinderella in a blue bejewelled lehenga came in the next slide, followed by Rapunzel in a pink one, flaunting her long tresses adorned with flowers and head accessories, resembling that of South Asia.

The AI artist was heaped with praise by social media users who came upon across the stunning slew of pictures. One of them took no time to comment, “My gosh you blew me away with this!”. Another found the illustrations to be simply “epic”. “This needs to be a real thing,” noted an impressed individual. “These visuals are magic,” lauded a person.

So far, the pictures have garnered over 7,700 views on Instagram. What are your thoughts on this?
