Olympic Swimmer Adam Peaty Claims Athletes Found Worms In Food: 'The Catering Isn't Good'
"I like fish but people are finding worms in the fish. It's just not good enough," British swimmer Adam Peaty said.

The ongoing Paris Olympics have been in the news for many reasons. Many internal issues of the Games have come to light, with athletes sharing updates about their life inside the village. Behind-the-scenes footage of the apartments has been revealed, while some athletes have also opened up about the food served at the campaign. Recently, British swimmer Adam Peaty raised questions regarding the catering service at the Paris Olympics. The three-time Olympic medalist, who earlier competed at the Rio and Tokyo Games, found the quality of food quite poor at this year’s event. He also claimed that worms were found in the meal served at the Village.

“The catering isn’t good enough for the level the athletes are expected to perform. We need to give the best we possibly can. In Tokyo, the food was incredible. In Rio, it was incredible. But this time around? There weren’t enough protein options, long queues, waiting 30 minutes for food because there’s no queueing system,” Adam Peaty explained during an interaction with Inews.

“The narrative of sustainability has just been punished on the athletes. I want to eat meat, I need meat to perform and that’s what I eat at home, so why should I change? I like my fish and people are finding worms in the fish. It’s just not good enough,” he added.

As per the organisers, they wanted to promote sustainability at the Paris Olympics. In this regard, the athletes have been provided with cardboard beds and the effect was seen in the food routine as well. According to media reports, the organisers have decided to serve 60 per cent of meatless meals at the Olympic Village.

To make it happen, athletes get plant-based food in their third meal. Many people have opposed these rules and complaints have been registered about the inadequacy of food. It reportedly led Team Great Britain to bring their personal chefs to Paris.

“The narrative of sustainability has just been punished on the athletes. I want to eat meat, I need meat to perform and that’s what I eat at home, so why should I change? I like my fish and people are finding worms in the fish. It’s just not good enough. The standard, we’re looking at the best of the best in the world, and we’re feeding them not the best,” Adam Peaty told Inews.

A spokesperson from the Paris Olympics committee spoke to the outlet about the topic. He said, “Since the opening of the village, our partner Sodexo Live! has been working proactively to adapt supplies to the growing use of the Olympic Village restaurants. Certain products, such as eggs and grilled meats, are particularly popular among athletes, so their quantities have been immediately increased.”

According to Reuters, the Australian contingent came to Paris with “three tons of tuna, 10,000 muesli bars and 2,400 meat pies”. They also have three baristas, who are likely to prepare more than 20,000 shots during the competition.
