Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem entered the history books as he bagged gold at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a meteoric 92.97m throw in the final on Friday. Nadeem’s first attempt was a no-throw but he followed it up with an Olympic record throw that clocked 92.97m and pretty much became the gold standard of the javelin final. Only Neeraj Chopra, the Tokyo Games gold medalist, came close with a throw of 89.45m to take the silver medal. With this, Nadeem secured country’s first-ever track and field medal at the Olympics and ended Pakistan’s 32-year medal drought.
Seeing their countryman shine at the highest stage, Pakistani fans were, to no one’s surprise, over the moon. They showed up in numbers on ‘X’ and celebrated Nadeem’s big win with memes.

The fans also showed respect to India’s javelin champion Neeraj Chopra and reminded everyone about the special bond shared by the two athletes of the arch-rival nations.

Nadeem’s journey to this historic moment began when he became the first Pakistani to qualify for an Olympic final in athletics, finishing fifth at the 2020 Tokyo Games. His triumph in Paris is particularly significant as it represents Pakistan’s first Olympic medal since the 1992 Barcelona Games and only the fourth gold in the nation’s Olympic history.
Before his remarkable victory, Pakistan had never won an individual gold medal at the Olympics.
