Several videos of surgeons showing their skills of delicately peeling the skin off a grape have captured the internet’s attention in the past. Once again, a new video has stunned the internet, featuring a practicing surgeon polishing his skills by carefully peeling a grape using a laparoscopy training box. According to Storyful, a TikTok user, Jessica Haynes originally shared the clip on the platform while in Trinidad and Tobago with her boyfriend, Javed, who is preparing to start his residency next month. As per Haynes, her soon-to-be surgeon boyfriend has been practicing on various edible items, including peas and chunks of melon. The video was later reposted by the New York Post on Instagram, where it quickly went viral and garnered over 5 million views.
The video starts with Haynes handing a grape to her boyfriend for his training box. Without wasting any time, Javed begins the process. Holding the fruit with one stick, he carefully peels it with another. The clip concludes with Javed presenting his girlfriend a perfectly peeled fruit. Sharing the video, the NY Post wrote, “A soon-to-be surgical resident recently honed his skills by peeling a grape using a laparoscopic training box, as hilariously captured in a video recorded by his girlfriend."

Reacting to the clip, a user joked, “Here you go, that’ll be $328,545." Another wrote, “That grape died."
An individual explained, “Many surgical residents use that along with some other things to practice different things like fake skin with different slits to practice sutures. What he’s doing is to practice how delicately he can move his hands and fingers and some hand eye coordination."
“Dr Strange before he drives like bhaijaan," a comment read.
Another shared, “That’s skill. With regular laparoscopic instruments it takes a lot of precision to do that."
A user added, “That’s called grapeoscopy."
Back in 2010, a video from Edward Hospital in Illinois went viral, featuring a medical professional testing a robotic arm by performing surgery on a grape. In the video, a surgeon is seen in an operating room with the Da Vinci Surgical System, a complex machine with a viewfinder and tools operated by the surgeon’s fingers. This shows the system perfectly peeling off the grape’s skin.
According to the video, the machine offers some advantages for surgeons, including enhanced vision, greater precision and improved control. The system also reduces shaky hand issues, allowing steady and accurate movements. One of the key features of this robotic wrists is that it can rotate up to 540 degrees, which enables surgeons to perform complex movements that are not possible with human hands alone.
