The law of nature prevails in the jungle, where it is all about the survival of the fittest. Predatory animals like big cats prey on smaller herbivorous creatures. Animals on top of the food chain feasts on animals way lower down in the chain. It is not uncommon to come across videos where a tiger, leopard or lion preys on a deer or antelope. Sometimes, courage displayed by some animals can even go against the laws of the jungle. Today, we are going to show you how an antelope holds its ground against a lion attempting to attack it and even driving the lion away. Interesting videos related to forests and wild animals are often posted on YouTube. Recently one such video has been shared, in which the courage of a Nyala, a type of antelope, has been shown. This video was recorded by Mikaela Croas in Manyoni Private Game Reserve of South Africa.
In the viral footage, a marshy pond sits adjacent to an expansive grassy field. Within this scene unfolds a dramatic pursuit: a young black Nyala finds itself pursued by a lion. The Nyala exhibits agility and speed, leading the lion on a chase across the field. Seeking refuge, the Nyala runs into the pond, believing itself safe. The pond harbours its own dangers in the form of lurking crocodiles, poised to strike.
The lion patiently waits on the pond’s edge, waiting for the antelope to step out of the water. When a crocodile lunges at the Nyala, it runs out of the water and the lion springs into action. Yet, the Nyala refuses to surrender, realising that victory lies in confronting its fears head-on. With a courageous leap, the animal turns the tables, confronting the lion itself. Startled, the lion retreats, realising Nyala’s determination. Ultimately, the lion concedes defeat, fleeing the scene as the Nyala emerges triumphant.
