Watch: Pakistan's Biggest Thrift Store Vandalised By Mob On Opening Day
The thrift store opened at 3 pm on Sunday, September 11, and the situation went out of control in no time.

A mega thrift store recently opened in Pakistan but the inauguration didn’t go as planned. Named Dream Bazar, the shop offers clothing, fashion accessories and home essentials at comparatively lower prices. Every item had a huge discount on the opening day and the locals appeared to be in no mood to lose the opportunity. In several clips going viral, a large mob was seen breaking into the thrift store, located at the Gulshan-e-Johar mega mall in Karachi.

According to Pakistani channel, ARY News, the situation turned chaotic when over a thousand people tried to forcefully enter the shop, which is claimed to be the biggest thrift store in Pakistan. The management of Dream Bazar was unable to control the crowd which allegedly vandalised and looted the shop.

There were videos in which a sea of people could be seen waiting outside the gate. They engaged in a brawl as everyone was desperate to find their way into the shop.

As per the news portal, the thrift store opened at 3 pm on Sunday, September 11, and the situation went out of control in just 15 minutes. The outlet further claimed that the crowd had almost looted half of the shop by 3:30 pm. In one of the viral videos, a shop operator was seen expressing his disappointment, sharing details of the incident.

“We tried to provide convenience to the people of Karachi…. we never claimed our products were on sale or at wholesale rates. But look at what has happened to the store,” the person revealed. Another employee appeared in the same clip and added, “We were so excited and worked hard for 20 days, only to see the store destroyed.”

Many social media users have criticised the event. One of them said, “What else can you expect from a country where lawlessness is the norm? A place where even a generous gesture turns into chaos. This incident speaks volumes about the state of affairs in Pakistan.”

Another user noted, “This city (Karachi) has always been most notorious for crime. Something like how Mumbai was popular in the 80s. Now, with their economy screwed, it is next level!”

A person sarcastically said, “The country which has predominantly been ruled by the military has zero discipline in the civic way of life. What an irony.”

An Indian citizen reckons one can “easily assess the financial situation in the neighbouring country” by watching the viral videos.

The unruly crowd reportedly caused damage to the property as well. Garments and other items were scattered all across the floor. According to eyewitnesses, no police personnel was present near Dream Bazar when the store opened.
