Pakistan’s prime ministerial hopeful Nawaz Sharif seems to be the obvious front-runner just ahead of the national elections, observers have told CNN-News18.
Sharif has the experience and his political qualifications give him the upper hand, they said. Huge crowds are showing up at his campaign rallies, the sources added.
Sharif’s economic policies, youth-focused development, and works done in the past will ensure his victory, they said.
During Nawaz Sharif’s PM tenure (2013-2017), thousands of young graduates found jobs, boosting employment.
Following his departure, job opportunities dwindled, leading to a surge in overseas migration. Over 50,000 youngsters now seek opportunities abroad every year.
According to reports, Sharif’s party Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has fielded the best possible candidates looking at the present scenario.
All sections of society, specifically the business community, are placing confidence in him because of the struggle and borrowing they have seen, said observers.
According to top business houses, only Nawaz Sharif can bring the economy back on track and the country can see the revival of its income generation system under his guidance.
Nawaz Sharif’s past work in infrastructure development, including roads and highways, will also give him a boost in the elections, sources said.
Also, they said, a large section of the Pakistani populace is upset with Imran Khan’s tenure as PM.
Khan will not be able to contest this time because he’s behind bars serving a sentence he and his supporters decry as “politically motivated” and “a conspiracy”.
Even foreign rating agencies that have done independent work in the country give the upper hand to Nawaz Sharif.
Also, the Muslim world has been backing Sharif as every time he was jailed or sent abroad, Saudi Arabia gave him residency and also negotiated his homecoming, said sources.
