A UK man, 28-year-old Nicholas Metson, has confessed to murdering his wife after initially denying it for nearly a year. According to police, Metson initially denied involvement when his wife’s body was discovered in 2023. However, during a court hearing in February, he admitted to the crime.

After killing his wife, Holly Bramley, 26, Metson withdrew money from her bank account and searched online for questions such as “What benefits do I get if my wife has died” and “Can someone haunt me after they die,” the BBC reported.

He also searched for “How to get rid of a dead body” and “Does God forgive murder,” among other things.

According to the publication, Metson and Bramley were on the verge of separating before the murder occurred, and Metson never gave a reason for his actions.

During the February hearing, another man, 28-year-old Joshua Hancock, who was allegedly a friend of Metson’s, admitted to helping dispose of the body. Metson admitted to keeping his wife’s remains in their flat for about a week before paying Hancock to get rid of them.

Bramley’s body was initially found in a river in March 2023 when a passerby noticed plastic bags floating in the water, one of which contained a human hand, according to the BBC. Authorities subsequently retrieved 224 remains of the body, but some parts were never located.

Before Bramley’s body was found, there were concerns about her well-being, as her family hadn’t seen her for over a year. This was reportedly due to Metson’s controlling behavior.

Metson from Lincoln, England, had a history of animal cruelty and had previous offenses against his former partners. Before murdering his wife, he reportedly subjected Bramley’s pets to brutal treatment as a form of punishment.

The UK daily Express & Star reported that Metson’s defence lawyer argued that he has autism spectrum disorder, which impacts his self-control and ability to empathise with others. Additionally, the lawyer stated that prison would pose “certain added difficulties for him.”

“With his autism and other disorders, he has a highly restricted capacity for remorse, he has profound difficulties to empathise with others and read the feelings of others,” the defence lawyer added.
