Former adult film star Mia Khalifa found herself in a public confrontation with an unknown Jewish woman, a video of which went viral. Khalifa, known for her outspoken support for Palestinians has faced backlash from pro-Israel groups for her views.
In the video shared on the X, Khalifa claimed the Jewish woman followed her, using slurs during an encounter at an Antique Jewelry Fair. The 43-second video captured a heated exchange, with the woman expressing solidarity with the Jewish people through the phrase “Am Yisrael Chai” and displaying a Hebrew Chai necklace.
The Zionists are losing the plot. She followed me through the lobby calling me slurs and didn’t stop the entire time she was waiting for her UberPool at the Antique Jewelry Fair. She’s a vendor- something she made abundantly clear so I guess this is what her business stands for: pic.twitter.com/8Bvw5yYEYJ— Mia K. (@miakhalifa) January 15, 2024
The video gained widespread attention on the internet and reactions from social media were divided. Journalist Rania Khalek supported Khalifa, condemning the alleged harassment, while X user Anita Zsurzsan slammed “American Zionists” for harassment. Hen Mazzig, the founder of The Tel Aviv Institute, accused Khalifa of antisemitism.
This incident comes amid the war between Israel and Hamas that began with a deadly October 7 attack on southern Israel, leading to a massive military campaign that has ravaged the Palestinian territory. The conflict has sparked global protests, with calls for a lasting ceasefire in the wake of growing human casualties. The US and Europe are on high alert for violence driven by Islamophobia or antisemitism, witnessing a rise in hateful rhetoric reported by Muslim and Jewish groups.
Agencies reports said that Palestinian militants this week battled Israeli forces in northern Gaza and launched a barrage of rockets from farther south. The Palestinian death toll rose to 24,285 people, Gaza’s Health Ministry said Tuesday. In Israel, around 1,200 people were killed during Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack that saw some 250 people taken hostage by the militants.
