The bus caught fire on a busy street in west London’s Twickenham. Police said no one was hurt.

A bus caught fire on a busy street in west London’s Twickenham on Saturday. The video footage has gone viral on social media where a bus is seen engulfed in huge flames in Twickenham as firefighters battle flames and billowing black smoke in the middle of the street.

The 490 bus burst into flames, shortly after midday (local time), on Richmond Road. The London Fire Brigade said that no one was hurt and the road will remain closed for the rest of the day while investigations continue.

“Crews have tackled a single decker diesel bus fire on Richmond Road in Twickenham. There are no reports of any injuries. The road remains closed following the incident and people are advised to avoid the area for the rest of the day,” the London Fire Brigade said in a statement on social media site X.

It further added that five fire engines and about 30 firefighters attended the scene. They took over an hour to extinguish the fire.

“One diesel single decker bus was destroyed by the fire. All passengers and the driver left the bus before the brigade’s arrival,” a spokesperson said while speaking to broadcaster BBC.

“I live very close to where the fire was and I was going out to run some errands. I looked up and saw a massive plume of smoke, and my neighbours and I went down an alleyway and saw the bus on fire,” an eyewitness said while speaking to the broadcaster.

“As far as I know, no one was hurt and everyone got off safely. There were definitely people on the bus, but they all got off before something bad could happen,” the person further added.

This is the fourth London bus to catch fire this year. A double decker bus exploded in west London earlier this January. A blast destroyed a bus completely in east London and another bus’s back was ripped off in an explosion in south London. Both incidents happened in January, according to a report by The Sun.
