With an eye on its global premiere at the EICMA 2023 (International Motorcycle Exhibition), scheduled to take place in Milan, Italy, starting on November 7, Yamaha has introduced a new generation of the MT-09 naked streetfighter motorcycle.
Under the concept name “The Knight Horse,” the new MT-09 has been designed with new features, improved mechanicals, and a fresh look. Firstly, let’s address the most apparent one—that recently formed sharp visage. The sleeker and sharper headlamp unit has replaced the previous MT’s basic LED unit. According to Yamaha, the riding posture has been somewhat sportier, and the tank has also undergone revision.
According to the Times of India, Yamaha states that the stiffness around the front has been somewhat lowered and adjusted to create a stronger combination of stability and nimbleness in a wider variety of situations. Also, the suspension has been revised with an emphasis on boosting overall rigidity. Reportedly, hardware has also been modified; the MT-09 now has a Brembo master cylinder and new Bridgestone Hypersport S23 tyres. Rather than being one piece like on the previous model, the rider and pillion now have separate seats; in addition, there is a USB-C-style charger underneath the seat.
2024 Yamaha MT-09: Features And Design
The fuel tank of the 2024 Yamaha MT-09 has been modified, and new, meaner-looking LED headlights have been added to the front fascia. Along with Yamaha Ride Control and cruise control, the new Yamaha MT-09 also has a five-inch full colour TFT instrument cluster with type-C charging outlets and linked electronics.
Meanwhile, a new acoustic amplifier grille that sends sound to the rider is one of the revised MT-09’s most intriguing features. It is located above the fuel tank. Yamaha has applied the same technique to the most recent MT-10.
Although Yamaha has not officially released the motorcycle’s technical details, it has stated that it is more powerful than previously. Nevertheless, the previous generation MT-09 had a six-speed transmission coupled to an 847 cc three-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that produced 113 horsepower at 10,000 rpm and 87.5 Nm of peak torque at 8,000 rpm.
The Japanese two-wheeler maker has officially announced that the new MT-09 will be on sale in Japan in the spring of 2024, with a possible later Indian debut. Yamaha is currently concentrating on launching the 300cc versions in India by December 2023; the upgraded Yamaha MT-09 will eventually make its way to India.
