Bengaluru: BMRCL To Build Double-Decker Flyover At Delmia Circle To Curb Traffic
The latest proposal by the state government to build a double-decker flyover over the 32-kilometer route would necessitate demolishing the flyover to build enormous piers for the road-cum-metro flyover.

The Delmia Circle flyover in Bengaluru’s JP Nagar is likely to be demolished to make way for a double-decker flyover as part of Phase III of the Namma Metro project.

According to reports, an elevated corridor on the Outer Ring Road is being built by the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) between JP Nagar 4th phase and Kemapapura. The Delmia flyover, which cost Rs 25 crore, was opened for motorists in 2018.

Originally, BMRCL planned to use portal beams to support a viaduct to be built above the flyover, with pillars on either side. However, the latest proposal by the state government to build a double-decker flyover over the 32-kilometer route would necessitate demolishing the flyover to build enormous piers for the road-cum-metro flyover.

“Earlier, with the consent of BBMP, it was decided that a viaduct would be built above the flyover with the help of portal beans. To build the portal beans around 840 sqm of land located adjacent to the service road was identified for acquisition. However, with the proposal for building a double-decker on the entire stretch, this Delmia flyover could make way for Metro construction,” said a BMRCL official quoted by The Times of India.

A double-decker flyover connecting Ragigudda and Silk Board on the Yellow Line Metro has already been constructed by BMRCL and is partially accessible to motorists. To make way for the construction of both the interchange station and this flyover, the Jayadeva flyover was destroyed in 2020.

As part of its first plans, BMRCL would construct double-decker flyovers at two junctions: Kanakapura Road on the ORR (1.4 km) and Kamakhya Junction. The state government recently proposed building a double-decker flyover throughout the entire span, and BMRCL is looking into the feasibility. The cost of building the road flyover must be met by the state government.

In phase 3, the 45-kilometer Orange Line will be connected to other Metro lines and means of transportation at 11 places. BMRCL will also provide 20,940 sqm of parking space at various stations along the line, while 52,335 sqm will be used for property development.
