Gurgaon: CM Manohar Lal Khattar to Inaugurate Vatika Chowk Underpass on Nov 3
Vatika Chowk's awaited Rs 109 crore underpass opens Nov 3, easing congestion, boosting connectivity, and transforming daily commutes.

Vatika Chowk’s bustling traffic hub is about to undergo a major transformation as the Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, is all set to inaugurate the remarkable 825-meter underpass on November 3.

This visionary project, funded with a staggering Rs 109 crore, was meticulously executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and features approach roads on both ends.

Once operational, this underpass is poised to revolutionize the daily commute for thousands of travelers heading towards Faridabad and NH-8, enhancing seamless inter-sector connectivity in the newly developed sectors along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR).

To make the grand opening event even more special, Union Minister and local MP Rao Inderjit Singh is expected to grace the ceremony with his presence. Vatika Chowk has long stood as one of the city’s busiest intersections, playing a crucial role for vehicles coming from Rajiv Chowk on NH-8, Sohna, Ghata Chowk on Gurgaon-Faridabad road, Narsinghpur on NH-8, and the Dwarka Expressway.

This underpass is an integral part of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority’s (GMDA) grand vision to transform SPR from Ghata to NH-8 into a signal-free mobility corridor via the Sohna elevated road. While the project received administrative approval from the CM in July last year, the construction faced unforeseen challenges like persistent rain and funding delays, which made the journey more challenging.

During a recent inspection, Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav urged the dedicated officials to complete the remaining formalities in time, ensuring that the underpass is ready to serve the public.

Yadav highlighted the city’s commitment to improving connectivity and alleviating traffic congestion, saying, “The underpass is a vital infrastructure project that will ease connectivity from Golf Course Road Extension to NH-8. This will ultimately help ease the traffic burden at Vatika Chowk and make travel smoother.”

NHAI officials are now in the final stages of preparation for the big November 3 event. Construction is complete, and the teams are working tirelessly on beautification and housekeeping efforts.

Rigorous safety checks and testing are underway to ensure the structure is absolutely ready for the public. While NHAI has been handling the electrical work, GMDA is eagerly waiting for a power connection from DHBVN to illuminate the streetlights. DHBVN officials have assured that the power supply will be up and running “within a day or two.”
